Volunteers

We currently have a volunteering vacancy.

Volunteers are a vital part of the organisation.  They provide an extra level of quality and care for patients, carers and their families and friends.

The value placed upon our volunteers is immeasurable.  On average volunteers give over 750 hours of service each week to Overgate.  Some volunteers have a regular commitment and others help on an occasional basis.   Volunteers work in most areas of the Hospice including:

  • Reception
  • Administration
  • Catering assistance
  • Day Hospice helpers and drivers
  • Counselling
  • Hairdressing
  • Complementary therapies
  • Befriending Scheme (Buddies)
  • Fundraising
  • Hospice shops
  • Friends Groups
  • Ward Volunteers
  • Directors/Trustees

One special group of volunteers are the Chaplaincy Team who visit the Hospice regularly.

The hospice is open to people of any faith or those who have no particular faith. Our Chaplaincy Team reflects this ethos.

Another unique group of volunteers are the Directors of the Hospice. They form the Board of Trustees who oversee the management of the Hospice, taking ultimate responsibility for the efficient and effective management of Overgate Hospice.
