I first began to support Overgate when a good friend invited me to their annual Golf Day. My wife Sue and I were then invited to more events and learnt all about the amazing work that they do. We have now supported the Hospice for over five years, not only personally but through our businesses too, because you can really see the difference that they make and the way that they help our community. In this time, I have also witnessed first-hand the wonderful way that patients, families and friends are looked after. My friend Gary spent his last days at the Hospice and was treated with such care and compassion.

Over the past five years I’ve enjoyed getting to know many of the Overgate team who always have a friendly welcome and a good Yorkshire cuppa waiting for me. We have supported the Hospice in lots of interesting ways, including replacing glazing in their shops, covering the cost of care on Christmas day, and taking home auction prizes like a hosted night at WWF!

In April last year my good friend Richard Porter called and explained the impact that Covid-19 was having on Overgate’s income and informed me of an appeal that was about to launch – I knew I had to help. We donated personally but also through our businesses; MBE Glazing and Swallow Powder Coatings, and in the same way that Richard reached out to us, we felt that we could further help by reaching out to our contacts too. At the same time, we worked together to fund the redecoration of the Day Hospice whilst it was closed due to the pandemic. It was a rare opportunity to do this for the Hospice at an otherwise difficult time for them, but I knew the positive impact it would have.

It is wonderful to be able to celebrate 40 years of care with Overgate, and we are proud to support them and the incredible work they do.
