At Overgate Hospice, we are dedicated to providing the highest quality palliative care to our Calderdale community, offering compassion, dignity and comfort to every patient. Our new Inpatient Unit, set to open in Spring 2026, will take our care to new heights with private, en-suite rooms designed to give every patient the peace and privacy they deserve.

However, this exciting development has highlighted the urgent need to replace our old, outdated equipment and furniture so that our facilities match the exceptional standard of care our nursing team already provides.
To help achieve this, our nurses have identified a list of essential items needed to deliver the very best care. By supporting our Equipment Appeal, no matter the size of your contribution, you’ll help ensure our new Inpatient Unit has everything it needs to provide peace, dignity and comfort to everyone in our care.

Katie’s Story

My brother Patrick was always the life and soul of the party, known and loved by everyone in Elland. When he passed away, over 200 people came to his funeral. Patrick’s illness took its toll slowly at first; but, as Christmas approached, it became clear that he would need to spend his final days at the Hospice.

Christmas has always been incredibly special for us. We’re a big, close-knit group, and we were heartbroken at the thought of Patrick being away from us - but Overgate made sure that didn’t happen. Our sister Nuala and I had Christmas dinner with Patrick. Staff set up a table in the respite room and served us a beautiful three-course dinner. Patrick wore his Christmas jumper, and we watched Wallace and Gromit, smiling and laughing together. Later, we sang hymns together, like we always used to.

That Christmas was a gift. A memory we will carry forever.

Now, due to my own illness, I’ve begun receiving support from Overgate too. From the very first visit, I have felt welcome. And, because of the care I saw Patrick receive, I’m no longer afraid of what the future holds. I know that when my time comes, I’ll be in the best possible place - surrounded by kindness, dignity, and love.
