Overgate Hospice has vast experience of providing the highest quality of care for our local community. However, the current constraints of our ageing facilities are making this more difficult than ever. Our redevelopment plans will transform the environment in which we care for our patients, as well as meaning we can care for more people who need us.
A Brand-New, State of the Art Inpatient Unit

At the heart of our redevelopment plans is a brand new, state of the art Inpatient Unit. This new building will create an exceptional space for us to deliver our care into the future. Our ambition is to provide comfort, privacy and dignity for our patients and their families, without compromise.

Our new Inpatient Unit will consist of 16 private bedrooms. Each patient coming to stay at the Hospice will be welcomed into their own personal, spacious room, offering a warm, homely environment. 

Each patient bedroom will have a spacious, accessible ensuite bathroom, specially designed to cater for a variety of complex mobility issues faced by people living with a terminal illness. This will give patients back their independence, privacy and dignity.
Loved ones have been carefully considered and each bedroom will include facilities for families to spend time together in a comfortable, flexible space. This includes overnight beds in every room for loved ones to spend the night whenever the patient wishes.

The new Inpatient Unit will have increased communal family areas, offering dedicated space for families to take a break from the bedside. There will be room for children to relax and be themselves, with a variety of toys, activities and games consoles. 

Overgate serves a multicultural and diverse community and this is reflected in our plans. More spacious rooms will allow for larger families to visit and a new multi-faith spiritual space will offer a place for quiet reflection.   
A New Flexible Space for our Day Hospice
 
Our Day Hospice is an essential part of the care we provide. The relocation of our Inpatient Unit will provide an opportunity to move our Day Hospice service to a larger, newly refurbished area. This new facility will provide an improved, flexible space to host the wide range of outpatient services we offer to our community.
 
This expansion will mean that we can offer our Day Hospice services to more people. The space will be flexible, enabling us to provide a wide range of daily therapeutic and social activities, including music and art therapy.
 
A new, accessible kitchen area will be fully equipped and designed to encourage patients to maintain their independence while practising daily living skills, supported by our therapy team.
Dedicated, private consultation rooms will offer the chance for patients to speak confidentially with our wide range of professionals, including social workers, chaplains and medical professionals. Specially designed therapy rooms will provide an escape for patients, offering an atmosphere of calm to help reduce pain, lessen anxiety and improve sleep and wellbeing.
 
This facility will allow more patients to access our support earlier in their illness for wellbeing, symptom control, pain management and peer support.
I am so excited for the launch of the Big Build appeal as this means we are one step closer to the redevelopment of Day Hospice! Having extra space will enable us to be able to offer more services to meet the needs of a wider range of people living with a progressive, life limiting illness and their carers, providing the right care to the right person at the right time.

We have been working with KKE Architects for a number of years to explore all feasibility options to upgrade our facilities. KKE Architects is an award-winning architecture and landscape design practice, established in 2005. The practice specialises in healthcare design – particularly in the design of hospices and palliative care settings with over 57 completed projects to date. KKE share our passion to create an exceptional space for patients and their families whilst understanding the need for a sustainable and energy efficient facility.
