The Overgate Hospice Big Build Appeal is well under way, with £9.7m already raised in the private phase of the appeal, and just £3m left of our £12.75m total. Part of the private phase of any capital appeal is applying for grants from trusts and foundations, helping to raise large sums of money whilst also solidifying the charity’s reputation as a worthwhile investment.
One of the biggest opportunities, which also carried the biggest risk, was applying to the Wolfson Foundation for a significant donation. The Wolfson Foundation are known to be extremely thorough, but a yes from them lets others know your charity is worth the funding it is asking for. In securing the funding from the Wolfson Foundation, two more incredible foundations followed suit and both gave their own significant donations towards the build project.
In November 2023 we were thrilled to receive a donation from the Bernard Sunley Foundation, which generously supported our Big Build Appeal with a grant of £50,000. This wonderful contribution towards our new Day Hospice facilities will enable us to enhance the facilities and care we provide to our community. We extend our deepest gratitude to the Bernard Sunley Foundation for their generous support.
Then in December 2023, we had an incredible gift from the Garfield Weston Foundation, we were delighted to receive the exciting news that our application to the Garfield Weston Foundation for funding towards the redevelopment had been successful. This prestigious foundation, known for its unwavering support of charities making a positive impact, has generously awarded Overgate a substantial grant of £125,000 towards the Big Build Appeal! Our heartfelt thanks to the Garfield Weston Foundation for their incredible support.
We are so thankful to all the charitable foundations which have so far donated towards building a new hospice for Calderdale, and we look forward to sharing the news of any future successful applications.
