The Bobble Hat February campaign challenges people to wear their bobble hat for the day and make a donation to the Hospice. Others took on a challenge or organised a fundraising event all while wearing their bobble hats. In 2021 the campaign raised over £4,000!

The campaign was the idea of the Richardson family. While their dad John was being looked after in the hospice the staff noticed the family’s love for colourful headwear.

John’s son Mark said, “Every day, no matter the time, we were always welcomed by all the Hospice staff with warmth and love. “What hats have we got on today?” “Here comes the bobble hat family” the doctors and nurses would say to us when we walked through the door. It always made us smile, which was just what we needed at such a sad time.”

John passed away two years ago at the Hospice, and Mark and his family decided to raise funds to support the continuation of care for other people, like John, who are in need of end of life care.
“We came up with lots of fundraising ideas but the one that we had to go with was Bobble Hat February! Fundraising has always been a big part of our family and we are asking our friends, family and Overgate supporters to join us in wearing bobble hats in February.”

Mark has set himself a challenge for this year: “I’m going to walk or run 5K a day as well as running up Scammonden steps on the 1st February and again on the 18th – the day we lost dad. I’m going to do some boxing at the gym too – all while wearing my bobble hat and raising vital funds for the Hospice.”
To get involved and join Mark and his family as they sport their winter woollies, simply pick your favourite hat, wear it for Overgate this February and make a donation towards the care the Hospice provides.
