We are extending special thanks to the youth of Calderdale who volunteer their time to support us as part of the Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE).

DofE is the world’s leading youth achievement award for 14 to 24-year olds. It aims to inspire, guide and support young people in their self-development and recognise their achievements. Young people design their own personal programme, choosing a challenge under each section of the Award: volunteering, physical, skills, expedition. The activities they choose vary enormously and reflect the diversity of young people’s interests. As a local charity we have long been a popular choice for those looking to achieve the volunteering requirements of the Award, and the team at the Hospice are keen to express their gratitude.

‘It is always wonderful to see so many young people getting involved and supporting the care we provide. Some people help in our shops, some at the Hospice itself and others at fundraising events. We like to think that we have a role to suit everyone and do our best to accommodate the interests and skills of all our volunteers, which fits nicely alongside the DofE goals of finding challenges that reflect the personal interests of the participants. Many of the volunteers who come to us as part of DofE stay on to support us beyond their original commitment and we are so grateful to each and every person who gives us their time.’
