A Halifax ladies fundraising group have pulled out all the stops during lockdown to keep supporting
Overgate Hospice.

Fundraisers Jane Schofield, Gill Turczak, Angela Porter, Julie Neimantas and Rachel Ingham are no
strangers to raising funds for us and hold an annual lunch which raises thousands of
pounds each year. Unfortunately this event could not take place last year, however after losing a
close friend was cared for at the Hospice in February 2020 the ladies decided that they wanted to
ensure they continued to support Overgate.

They contacted Franklyn Jewellers in Halifax who very kindly donated a diamond necklace. The
ladies decided to host an online raffle, mainly through Facebook, which raised over £3,500. The
group then collated a cook book of recipes to sell in support of the Hospice.
Jane said: “When things did start to become clear that COVID was here to stay and the whole
country was put into tier systems we realised that the lunch would not go ahead so decided to
create a lockdown recipe book with a selection of canapes, starters, main courses, vegetable dishes
and beautiful desserts, many of these given to them by friends. We were delighted to sell these and
raised over £8,000.”

Faye Henderson, Head of Fundraising at Overgate said: “We are always blown away by the ladies’
energy and dedication to the Hospice. It was such a shame they had to cancel their festive lunch last
year but we can’t wait for it to return this year on 2nd December at Bowers Mill. We want to thank all
the ladies for their huge donation of £11,500. This money will go a long way to support our patients
and their families.”
