We are celebrating after recruiting the most Reindeers ever for our Reindeer Run!

The Reindeer Run involves schools or nurseries taking on a sponsored walk or run at a time and date to suit them, all the while dressed in antlers and red noses provided by us. The event can also be taken on as an induvial challenge or as a family.

It’s the third year we have hosted the campaign to raise vital funds for the Hospice, but this year has seen a record number get involved, with 9,600 children from 51 schools and nurseries taking part – the biggest participation event we have ever had.

Nikki Scholey, Community Fundraiser said: “It’s amazing to see so many childcare settings getting involved this year. It’s a real opportunity for the children to have fun while raising awareness of the Hospice, and it means so much to have their support.”

One of the schools taking part is Cross Lane Primary School in Elland. As their ‘Reindeer Run’ the entire school walked to the Hospice on Tuesday, wearing their antlers and red noses, and sang a Christmas song in the Hospice gardens for all staff and patients to hear.

Headteacher, Mark Sharp said: ‘As a whole school community we look forward to donning our antlers and red noses in the name of charity each Christmas - a charity that is not only at the heart of our local community, but is also close to many of our hearts. The ethos and values of Overgate mirror those of our own school and I believe we would be failing our young people if such values and character qualities were not instilled right from the start. The true sense of the word ‘community’, one of our school values, is echoed through the Reindeer Run: an event that brings everyone together at such a magical time of year.’

The campaign is sponsored by Study Write. Owner Vicky Queenan said: ‘Study Write tuition will be celebrating its 10-year anniversary next year and as part of these celebrations are proud to be sponsoring the annual ‘Reindeer Run’. After the last 18 months, who doesn’t need some ‘Reindeer Run’ fun?!’
