Volunteering

Volunteer Roles Available

There are a wide range of voluntary roles available at Overgate Hospice. We have a dedicated Volunteer Coordinator who can give you all the help and advice you need.

Volunteers are a vital part of the organisation. They provide an extra level of quality and care for patients, carers and their families and friends.

The value placed upon our volunteers is immeasurable. On average volunteers give over 750 hours of service each week to Overgate. Some volunteers have a regular commitment and others help on an occasional basis.

All our volunteers working in the clinical areas at the Hospice are required to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Services enhanced disclosure (DBS). All have to provide two references and attend a general induction training session at Overgate Hospice before they can begin volunteering to ensure safety and suitability for each volunteer role.

Please note that the minimum age for volunteering at the Hospice is 16 years of age. The minimum age for volunteering in our shops is 14.

  • Volunteer Week

Every year, during the first week in June, we celebrate national "Volunteers Week".

It is a wonderful opportunity for us to recognise the fantastic work and support provided by our team of over 640 regular volunteers.

These are people from within our community who support us in our charity shops, in the various departments within the Hospice, members of our Friends of Overgate Groups, our Choir, at our many fundraising events - the list is endless.

During this week we will be sharing with you just why our volunteers get involved and what they personally get out of volunteering.

    Please watch this space.....
