The Overgate Overseas Treks return with Everest Base Camp 2025! A trek you really don’t want to miss out on, the team here at Overgate Hospice will be here to support you every step of the way and every metre of the climb as you ascend through one of the world’s most tranquil mountain ranges, and gaze up at the world’s highest mountain! You’ll form lifelong friendships with your fellow trekkers, all whilst raising vital funds for Overgate Hospice!

What is included in the challenge?
Return flights from London Airport to Kathmandu, all overseas transfers and accommodation, all meals on the trek and breakfast in Kathmandu, porters and professional English-speaking local guides, permits and National Park Fees, local English-speaking trekking guides along with a local high altitude medic, safe drinking water for trekking, a kit bag for the trek including a down sleeping bag, fleece sleeping bag liner, and down jacket, and a Challenge Medal.
What is not included in the challenge?
Airport tax and fuel surcharges, which are approximately £250 and payable 12 weeks prior to departure, Personal Travel Insurance – this can be obtained through Global Adventure Challenges, visa for Nepal, lunches and dinners whilst in Kathmandu including your celebratory meal, any tips and gratuities, and any alcoholic drinks.
Itinerary
Day 1: Depart UK
Depart the UK with the rest of Team Overgate for our overnight flight to Kathmandu.
Day 2: Arrive in Kathmandu
Arrive in Kathmandu and transfer to our hotel. A pre-trek briefing will be given by Global Adventure Challenges’ local ground staff.
Day 3: Kathmandu
Sighting seeing tour of the most historical and spiritual landmarks in Kathmandu to help is acclimatise – including the historic Kathmandu Durbar Square and the famous “Monkey Temple” (Swayambunath). In the afternoon, we will transfer to Mulkot ready for our flight to Lukla from Manthali Airport tomorrow.
Day 4: Lukla to Phakding (2600m)
Our challenge begins! After breakfast we fly from Kathmandu on a stunning 40-minute internal flight to the mountain village of Lukla. In the afternoon, we start our trek and descend on a wide trail towards the Dudh Kish River, arriving at our accommodation in Phakding.
Trekking distance approx. 7.5km / 3-4 hours.
Day 5: Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3446m)
We head up the valley on a busy trail used by porters and Sherpas, following the Dudh Koshi River across a large suspension bridge and up the steep ascent to Namche Bazaar. The tough climb is well worth it to see our first glimpse of Lhotse (8511m), Nuptse (7879m), and Everest (8848m).
Trekking distance approx.. 8.5km / 7 hours.
Day 6: Namche to Kyangjuma (3600m)
Today we journey to the small settlement of Kyangjuma, following a meandering trail with incredible views of the Ama Dablam and Thamserku, where wildlife thrives!
Trekking distance – approx. 4.5km / 3 hours
Day 7: Kyangjuma to Phortse (3840m)
We ascend the Mong at nearly 4000m for morning tea. Then, we’ll trek through ancient forests to a Stupa on the rocky ridge of Mong La (3992m). After lunch at Phortse Tenga, we head up the other side of Phortse. This is a tough day; you will be tired when you get there!
Day 8: Phortse to Upper Pangboche (4000m)
The trial climbs a little from Phortse, taking us on a stunning trek to Upper Pangboche with amazing views of Ama Dablam and Everest. Here, we’ll witness stunning views of the mountain from a quieter side of the valley. We will spend the night in Upper Pangboche, and we will have the opportunity to visit a beautiful monastery that once housed the legendary Yeti scalp!

Day 9: Upper Pangboche to Dingboche (4360m)
Our trek follows a trail high above the Imja Khola, passing tea houses at Orsho before crossing the Imja Khola and the old glacial moraines to our lodge in Dingboche. A walk above the village in the afternoon up towards Nangkartshang Peak is a superb way to help you acclimatise!

Day 10: Acclimatisation day at Dingboche
Today, your leader will advise you on ways to acclimatise. Options include a trip to Ama Dablam Base Camp or an excursion up Nangkartshang Peak.
Day 11: Dingboche to Lobuche (4930m)
Today we begin the ascent of a small ridge behind the village and then we continue to climb the Pheriche. In the afternoon, we take a steep but short climb over rocky terrain to the top of the moraines. We then follow a narrow trail all the way to the tea houses at Lobuche. A tiring day but with rewarding views!
Trekking distance – approx. 7.5km / 5 hours.
Day 12: Lobuche to Everest Base Camp then Gorak Shep (5160m)
Today we reach our goal! It’s a gradual ascent, which allows us to build up a slow and steady rhythm required for walking at altitude. We’ll reach the flat basin of Gorak Shep, and then trek up the Khumbu Glacier itself. Finally, we’ll reach the prayer flags of Everest Base Camp! We will then descend back to Gorak Shep, where we will spend the night.
Trekking distance – approx. 12km / 8 hours
Day 13: Gorak Shep to Kala Patthar and then Pherice (4232m)
Today we tackle the summit of Kala Patthar (5545m), a mighty peak offering views of Everest Base Camp. We’ll then descend Gorak Shep, before continuing to Lobuche. After lunch, we will trek to the temporary settlement of Phulung Karpa, before descending to our accommodation in Pheriche.
Trekking distance - 10.5km / 7 hours
Day 14: Pheriche to Namche Bazaar (3446m)
We will cross the Khumbu Kholo River, before descending through Orhso, Pangboche, Deboche, and then Thyangboche where we stop for lunch. We then descend through forest to Ohunki Tenga. Then, we contour high above the river valley back to our accommodation in Namche Bazaar.
Trekking Distance- approx. 17.5km / 8 hours
Day 15: Namche Bazaar to Lukla (2827m)
We will start the day by descending a steep trail to the Bhote Kosi River. Our trekking then gets easier as we pass through beautiful blue pine and rhododendron forest. Then, we’ll climb out of the river valley to Lukla. In the evening, we’ll have a farewell dinner with our porters, followed by celebratory drinks and dancing with our Sherpa companions!
Trekking distances – 16lm / 7 hours
Day 16: Lukla to Manthali and then Kathmandu
An early start in the morning to catch our flight back to Manthali Airport We will then transfer to Kathmandu, where we will have the afternoon and evening free for a well-deserved rest or time to explore the city!
Day 17: Kathmandu
A free day in Kathmandu, and a celebratory dinner!
Day 18: Depart for UK.
