I grew up hearing all about the amazing work carried out at the Hospice from my mum, Janet, who was on the nursing team there for 25 years. Even outside of the stories I would hear at home, it’s clear that Overgate means so much to the community. Most people you chat to have some experience of their care or support them because they have heard about the fantastic care they provide from someone close to them.
During lockdown last year I started live streaming ‘Our House’ DJ sets on Facebook from my son Leo’s bedroom, and I decided to utilise all the amazing support I received to raise awareness and funds for Overgate. I set up a fundraiser for a Saturday night in April and was blown away by the response. Over £11,000 was raised! As more and more money came in the atmosphere in the chat was incredible and more and more people tuned in. It was an amazing experience.
I’ll always do all I can to support Overgate. When things started to get back to normal I hosted an Our House Reunion event at Piece Hall and invited the fundraising team to come along with their collection buckets. The Our House Family is amazing and it’s always great to see everyone rallying around for a cause close to all our hearts. People always dig deep for Overgate and it makes me proud to be a part of this fantastic community.
