We are overjoyed to announce that, through the dedicated efforts of the local community, we managed to raise a whopping £23,321 for our Leap Year Appeal – more than double the initial target of £11,600 needed to cover the cost of the extra day this February.

The Halifax Courier has been working with us throughout this campaign, telling stories of our staff, volunteers, and patients and their families. On the 29th February we also took over Halifax and had collections and stalls at Morrisson’s Illingworth, Asda, Tesco Metro, Sainsbury’s, and Borough Market, along with new goods stall and face painting at the Piece Hall.

Despite the inclement weather it was wonderful to see so many people in the community supporting our campaign and chatting with us about their experiences with Overgate Hospice.

Overgate Chief Executive, Janet Cawtheray said, “Working at the Hospice, I know how important each minute is, and I spent my extra day with my family. However, our nurses spent their day providing loving care to the families in Calderdale in our care. This was only possible due to the overwhelming generosity of our community and everyone who donated to our Leap Year Appeal. On behalf of all our staff and the patients we are caring for, thank you.”

Claire Sullivan, Individual Giving Fundraiser said, “What a fantastic leap day we had on Saturday. From all our wonderful volunteers who worked so hard to raise as much money as possible, to the families who joined us in the Piece Hall to have a chat, a hot drink, get their face painted, or buy one of our lovely items for sale. We are so proud of the efforts that the people of this community have gone to, throughout the month of February, to help us fund that extra day, and that effort shows in the incredible amount raised.”

Once again, we are so grateful to everyone who contributed to our Leap Year Appeal. Without the support of the local community we would not be able to continue to provide the care that we do, and, truly, it’s times like these that we are reminded that the Hospice is in safe hands with supporters like ours.
